For Indonesians, cash is king – especially when it comes to small item purchase. While credit cards are used for online and large payments, Mastercard wanted to encourage Indonesians to use their Debit Mastercard on small item purchases vs cash.

People in Indonesia have the misconception that their Debit Mastercard is just an ATM card. A key to their vault. A way to unlock cash, so they can have more of it. But the truth is, it’s so much more.

A new repositioning of Mastercard Debit cards that reminded Indonesians it’s more than just an ATM card.

Yes, your ATM card is your Debit Mastercard. It can be used to pay for a carton of milk, to top up petrol, buy a magazine, treat yourself to bubble tea―and so much more!

This campaign doesn’t shy away from the idea that many people believe a Debit Mastercard is an ATM card. But rather it addresses the misconception, blows it wide open and reveals the world of possibilities one has with a Debit Mastercard.

For those who were still unconvinced that using their cards was just as safe as paying with cash, we gave them some reasons to believe.

To sweeten the deal, we reached out to merchants and threw in some perks for Debit Mastercard cardholders.
